WHAT SHOULD I BRING

Some of the mountain bike trails in Tenerife can take you many kilometers away from "civilisation" meaning that you will need to be self sufficient when out riding or face the possibility of a long push back to the road. The following is a list of items which we believe is the bare minimum to look after yourself and your bike whilst enjoying the mountain bike trails of Tenerife.

For your bike

  • Spare tubes
  • Puncture repair kit and plenty of patches
  • Tyre boot or Gaffer Tape
  • Good multi tool ( Make sure that it covers the full range of sizes needed for your bike)
  • Pump
  • Shock Pump if applicable
  • Spare brake blocks or disc brake pads
  • Replacement mech hanger
  • Spare brake / gear cable inner
  • Anything specific to your bike ( The bike shops are good, but do not always stock what you're looking for)

Anything else you can pick up from one of the islands bike shops, but these items should get you out of trouble if disaster strikes.

    For you

  • Good padded shorts
  • Base layer
  • Short and long sleeve riding tops
  • Waterproof jacket
  • Waterproof over trousers
  • Hydration pack with good sized bladder
  • First Aid kit (and the knowledge of how to use it!)
  • Sun Screen (High Factor is best, the sun is strong at altitude)
  • Trail food (Cheap but good cereal bars can be bought in the local supermarkets)
  • Gloves (Full finger are best)
  • Eyewear
  • Helmet
  • Pads if you fancy taking on some of the more challenging trails

You may wonder why the waterproofs when there is so little rain on Tenerife? The fact is that the weather when riding at altitude can change rapidly, heavy cloud can blow in which you may have to decend through. This can get pretty damp and cold, especially in the winter months. So you have been warned! Good eyewear is also imperative. It may be the norm for you, but you would be surprised how many people we meet on the trails with no eye protection. Even if nothing gets thrown up into your eyes from the trail, your eyes at least deserve protection from the suns strong rays here on Tenerife.
